Starting from September 12, 2024, SAP will block access to all its cloud services and products, as well as technical support from Russia. This block will extend to Belarus from October 2, 2024, severely affecting companies that use enterprise management software, design and manufacturing software, or IT support services.
The sanctions imposed by the EU and the US prohibit the provision of software services or products related to enterprise management and design, whether on-premise or cloud-based, as well as IT support and maintenance. SAP, known for its commitment to ethics and legal compliance, has decided to block access to its services from Russia and Belarus to align with these sanctions.
This block will inevitably apply to all SAP cloud products, except in very specific cases where companies may obtain legal authorization to continue using them, thus avoiding the mentioned international SAP sanctions.
These exceptions may only apply if companies meet very strict criteria, such as being authorized by a specific or general license under US or EU laws, or if they are a subsidiary or branch of a company located in countries like the US, Canada, the European Union, Japan, among others.
Which customers qualify for exceptions to SAP international sanctions?
SAP has created a communication and exception management program for customers who may be exempt from these sanctions.
- Exempt Customers: these are customers who can continue using the services automatically, without needing to request exceptions. This mainly includes customers in countries like the US, Canada, and the EU.
- Customers with an Option for Exception: these are some customers, primarily those outside of the exempt countries but with ties to them, who may request an exception to the block.
- Blocked Customers: these are customers who will be blocked by default due to the sanctions, although they may request an exception in rare cases.
It is important to emphasize that it is the responsibility of SAP partners to communicate these policies to their customers.
The blocks that SAP is implementing are in accordance with compliance with international sanctions, with the aim of ensuring that its operations align with the export control laws and economic sanctions of major world powers.
