There are two methods to successfully migrate from ECC to SAP S/4 HANA:
The first one is through the Brownfield method (reuse and convert), which is nothing else, but migrating to S/4HANA without having to reimplement business processes, and using the same operation data. With this method, business processes are brought to S/4HANA with virtually no fundamental changes, thus minimizing the risks and costs associated with a full migration.
The second method is Greenfield (redesign and reimplement), which gives the opportunity to do a reimplementation from scratch with new business processes, eliminating all vices, and taking advantage of all the capacity to use the new business content that it offers. “In addition, intelligent business processes will be carried out so that the company can grow solidly; This is what SAP seeks for its customers.” (A. Muerza, 2023).
In this sense, SAP offers EWA, Pathfinder and Redinesscheck reports (Greenfield method only), so that the SAP partner can execute and interpret the status of the current functionality. This information allows you to determine which tasks are ready for a possible conversion.
The reports involve a series of technical prerequisites that will help you know exactly what you need and how your current system is doing.
A very relevant aspect in order to carry out the migration process is that the users (key users) or those in charge of operation support, are well-trained, so that they know how the migration processes to SAP S/4HANA work, allowing them to make decisions during the conversion or redeployment. By knowing these processes, it is easy to identify when users have usage errors, and optimize the processes through the use of the new tools integrated in S/4HANA.
