The challenge of migration
A leading company in the manufacturing of packaging and displays faced the challenge of modernizing its technological platform. It operated with SAP ECC EHP4 Non-UNICODE and an Oracle database, which represented an obstacle to the migration to S/4HANA.
The main concern was to ensure operational continuity without interruptions, while at the same time taking advantage of the best practices that S/4HANA offers to optimize their business.
The solution: conversion and migration with SYAAT
To achieve a successful transition, the project was structured in two main phases:
Conversion to UNICODE: Because the client operated with a Non-UNICODE platform, a critical update of the SAP instances to UNICODE was performed, an essential requirement for the migration to S/4HANA. In addition to this, the version of the Windows Operating System and the Oracle version were also updated to the most current versions supported by SAP ECC EHP4.
Migration to S/4HANA: For this, the Software Update Manager tool with the System Move option was used to transfer the database to the SAP RISE cloud. The strategy included testing in a Sandbox environment and then in a quality environment, which made it possible to document and resolve possible problems before the final migration to the productive environment, and thus be able to resolve them in advance.
Key results
The conversion of the three environments (Development, Quality and Productivity) was carried out successfully. The transition was smooth, and SYAAT managed to complete it with less downtime than expected, allowing the teams to optimize their processes in advance.
By adopting S/4HANA best practices, the company has significantly improved its operational efficiency and has begun implementing new functionalities that were not previously possible, due to its legacy system. Also, connectivity and speed problems in data transfer were resolved, optimizing communication between the local infrastructure and the SAP RISE cloud.
